A Quiet Place (2018)
This 2018 post-apocalyptic horror follows a family struggling for survival in a world where most humans have been killed by blind but noise-sensitive creatures. They are forced to communicate in sign language to keep the creatures at bay.
Saw (2004)
Any horror movie compilation would be incomplete without Saw, and what better way to prepare for going to see the latest sequel in this epic horror franchise than by bingeing the rest on Amazon Prime first?!
The very first movie - released almost 20 years ago - follows two men, photographer Adam Stanheight (Leigh Whannell) and oncologist Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes), who regain consciousness while chained to pipes at either end of a filthy bathroom. Trapped by a sadistic serial killer nicknamed Jigsaw, the pair must complete his perverse puzzle in order to survive.
Final Destination (2000)
Like Saw, the Final Destination horror franchise is iconic - and you can stream them all with your Prime membership!
If Final Destination is a little before your time (Gen Z we’re looking at you), the films follow groups of people trying to avoid death after one member of the group has a premonition ahead and attempts to save them from their fate. However, death itself tries to set things right by killing all of those who have disturbed the balance of life and death.
Carrie (2013)
Carrie White, a shy and awkward teen being raised by a religious zealot, is frequently the target of bullies. But following one particularly cruel prank, Carrie unleashes her telekinetic powers on those who have tormented her, wreaking havoc on her small town.
This 2013 reimagining of Stephen King’s legendary novel and a remake of the 1976 film of the same name has received rave reviews from horror fanatics, so don’t sleep on it!
The Purge (2013)
2013 was a big year for horror films, with The Purge fast becoming a hit with viewers. Set in an America ravaged by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government sanctions an annual 12-hour period during which all criminal activity - including murder - is legal, known as ‘The Purge’.
Fighting to keep themselves safe amidst the anarchy of the outside world, a wealthy family struggles to survive the night while trying not to turn into the monsters they’re seeking to avoid.
Black Box (2020)
This American science fiction horror film tells of a single father who undergoes agonising experimental treatment after losing his wife and memory in a car accident, leading him to question who he really is.
With enough jump scares to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout, this one isn’t for the fainthearted…
The Others (2001)
With an impressive 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Others is arguably one of the greatest horror films out there. This creepy, clever ghost story is eerie and atmospheric throughout, making viewers feel deeply unsettled without relying on typical horror tactics.
Nicole Kidman stars as Grace, a devoutly religious mother of two children who suffer from a rare photosensitivity disease that causes the sun to harm them. But when her daughter Anne claims to see ghosts, Grace begins to realise something supernatural is at play and that the house may be haunted…
Talk To Me (2023)
A more recent release to add to your ever-growing list of horror movies to cram in before Halloween is this nightmarish debut from Australian twin filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou. Talk To Me explores a group of friends who discover how to conjure spirits with an embalmed hand, becoming hooked on the new thrill and high-stakes party game until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
While this one sadly isn’t free with your Prime subscription, it’s available to rent on the platform!
With plenty of horror movies to sink your teeth into, Prime Video has got you covered this Halloween… so remember to make the most of your six-month free trial!
